Grizzlies Leave Stockton With 5-2 Win

Stockton, California - The Utah Grizzlies (30-28-3-5) defeated the Stockton Thunder 5-2 Sunday night at the Stockton Arena to take two of three games from the Thunder on the weekend series.

For the third-straight game in the series, Utah fell behind 1-0 in the first period but rallied to tie the game at one. Vlady Nikiforov picked up a turnover and fed Tom May in the slot at 12:48 for his 22nd goal of the year and it was 1-1 at the first intermission.

Utah added a power-play goal from Tim Crowder (8) 1:35 into the second period and Dylan Hunter's 14th goal of the season made it 3-1 at the second intermission as he scored on the power-play with one second left in the period.

Stockton made it 3-2 in the third period 9:01 into the frame, but the Grizzlies responded 3:53 later to reclaim their two-goal lead back as Lance Galbraith fed Crowder (9) from behind the net for another goal. Utah made it 5-2 2:54 later as James Sixsmith picked up a lose puck and fed Vlady Nikiforov for his 18th goal of the year to make it 5-2 and that would be the final. Nikiforov finished the game with one goal and two assists.

Mikko Koskinen improved to 2-0 with Utah as the six-foot-seven rookie goaltender stopped 37 of 39 shots in the win.

The Grizzlies return to the E-Center for their final three home games of the regular season Wednesday, Friday and Saturday when they will host Bakersfield. Face-off all three nights is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
