Bakersfield Condors News Release
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Bakersfield Condors (34-27-4-1, 73pts) earned two crucial points against the Victoria Salmon Kings (32-28-4-2, 70pts) with a 3-2 win in front of 6,214 fans at Rabobank Arena on Saturday night. D Jordan Collins recorded his first two professional points in his second game.
Bakersfield got on the board first at 6:30 of the first period on F Gino Guyer's 13th of the season. The Condors dominated play in the first, but could only put one past G Glen Fisher. Bakersfield led in shots 17-8 after 20 minutes. During the second period, the momentum swung in favor of Victoria, who cut into Bakersfield's lead in shots. Ultimately, C Lance Morrison jammed home a puck at the side of the net with 5:17 left in the second period to tie the game at one. Throught 40 minutes, Bakersfield held a slight edge in shots, 29-24.
Like the first period, Bakersfield controlled play in the third period, leading to two goals in the span of 2:16 and a 3-1 Condors lead. D Jordan Collins got credit for a goal on a re-directed shot at 3:54. F Stephane Goulet followed it up with his 25th goal of the season at 6:10. F Matt Siddall cut it to 3-2, 8:46 into the third period, to create an exciting finish to the end of the game. The Condors countered and put the pressure on, while G Timo Pielmeier stood his ground in the final minutes to preserve the 3-2 victory.
Notes from the Nest: The Condors win, coupled with Las Vegas' loss to Alaska in regulation, gives the Condors a four-point lead in the Pacific Division over Las Vegas and Stockton with seven games to play. The win, coupled with Utah's loss lowered Bakersfield's magic number to eight points... F Stephane Goulet extended his point streak to four games (2g-5a)... F Andrew Ianiero had his eight-game point streak snapped... Bakersfield finished ahead in shots 43-30. The Condors are 6-3-1 when they take at least 40 shots... Three Stars: 1. Stephane Goulet (BAK); 2. Jordan Collins (BAK); 3. Maxime Macenauer (BAK). ON THE DOCKET: The Condors head on the road for a three game set against the Utah Grizzlies on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday.
Bakersfield returns home on Tuesday, March 30 for Blood Drive Night, presented by My 45 and KUZZ 107.9. Donate blood to Houchin Blood Bank this month and receive $1 admission to the game.
