Alaska Aces News Release

LAS VEGAS - As they had the night before, Alaska survived a furious Las Vegas comeback in the third period and emerged with a 3-2 verdict Saturday before 6,342 at the Orleans Arena.

The Aces have extended their season-long unbeaten streak to eight games (5-0-3) and now hold third place in the National Conference playoff race with an overall record of 31-26-8, the first time all season that Alaska has been five games above.500. The Aces finished the regular season 7-2-2 against the Wranglers, including a 16-9 advantage head-to-head in points. Alaska continues its six-game road trip next week in Ontario, with Wednesday and Saturday games against the Reign scheduled for 6:00 p.m. AT and a Friday night date slotted for 6:30 p.m. All three games will be broadcast live on KFQD 750 AM, with Peanut Farm Pre-Game show coverage beginning 15 minutes prior to face-off.

For the fifth straight game, the Aces scored first, with Brock McBride beating Vegas goalie Jimmy Spratt on a shorthanded breakaway set up by Judd Blackwater with 3:51 remaining in the opening period. Anthony Peluso extended the lead to 2-0 with a wrist shot from the left circle at 13:58 of the middle frame. As they had Friday, the Wranglers stormed back in the third period, getting on the board on a power play goal by John Schwarz just 1:49 into the frame and tying the game when Alex Bourret buried a rebound less than four minutes later.

Alaska's game-winning goal on Friday had come in a four-on-four situation; history would repeat itself Saturday, as Ryan Turek blasted home his third goal of the season from the top of the right circle with 11:20 left in regulation. Las Vegas continued to flurry, out-shooting the visitors 14-4 over the final 20 minutes and 36-25 for the game, but Scott Reid held sway, finishing with 34 saves to improve his personal mark to 15-12-6. He has lost just three of his last 15 starts. McBride now has points in seven consecutive games, with an assist on Turek's goal to go along with his 11th goal in 31 games as an Ace.
