Fresno Grizzlies News Release
The Fresno Grizzlies (10-3) defeated the Las Vegas 51s (4-9) 11-4 Tuesday night from Cashman Field. With the victory, the Grizzlies extended their win streak to seven games and 10th win in 11 games. Fresno batted through the order in the top of the first, bringing 12 players to the plate. Both Tony Kemp (3-for-4) and Drew Ferguson (2-for-5, four RBIs) recorded hits, bringing their team-high hit streaks to 10 games.
Fresno raced out to an 8-0 lead in the top of the first. After a leadoff walk to Kemp; Ferguson drilled a two-run shot to left. It was his first home run of the season. Later, Jon Kemmer and Garrett Stubbs (2-for-5) laced RBI singles to right, scoring A.J. Reed and J.D. Davis (3-for-5) respectively. The Grizzlies weren't done yet as Kemp singled to right in his second plate appearance of the inning, knocking in two. Then, Ferguson tripled deep to right, allowing two more runs to trot home. Those would be the last runs allowed by 51s starter A.J. Griffin (0-2, loss), who couldn't get out of the first. He went two-thirds of an inning, charged with four hits, three walks and seven earned runs.
Las Vegas cut the deficit to 8-2 in the bottom of the first when Bryce Brentz doubled home a pair. The 51s added another run in the sixth when David Thompson singled sharply to left, scoring Dominic Smith. That would finish the line for Fresno starter Trent Thornton (1-1, win). He lasted five and one-third innings, scattering two hits, four walks, three runs (earned) and striking out three.
Davis extended the Grizzly lead to 9-3 in the top of the seventh when he belted a solo shot to right. It was his first homer of the season.
The 51s logged one more run in the bottom of the eighth when Colton Plaia walked, allowing Brentz to waltz home. The next half inning, Stubbs ripped a two-run double to right-center, mustering two more Grizzlies' runs. The seven-run advantage was all Jacob Dorris needed as he punched out Brentz to end the game.
Fresno and Las Vegas are back at it Wednesday night from Cashman Field. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PT. Grizzlies' RHP Cy Sneed (1-0, 4.15) duels 51s' RHP Chris Flexen (1-1, 4.91).
