Salt Lake Bees News Release
SALT LAKE CITY - After a powerful offensive performance the night before, the Salt Lake Bees' bats were mostly quiet in a 5-3 loss to the Sacramento River Cats on Wednesday afternoon at Smith's Ballpark. Salt Lake took an early 1-0 lead in the fourth after a Jose Briceno single to score Jose Miguel Fernandez. The River Cats would respond with three runs in the top of the sixth to take the lead but the Bees would get back within one in the bottom half on a Jabari Blash single. Trailing 5-2 in the bottom of the 8th, the Bees loaded the bases with one out and Blash again brought in a run to close the gap, but Eric Young Jr. was called out on strikes and Briceno popped out to end the scoring threat. Fernandez, Blash and Briceno all finished with two hits apiece. Blash led the game with two RBIs while Briceno extended his current team-high hitting streak to five games.
It was also the third-straight game that the Bees did not commit a single error, a season-high streak. Felix Pena got the start for the Bees and did not allow a run or a hit in two scoreless innings. Newly acquired reliever Ivan Pineyro (0-1) took the loss in his Salt Lake debut. Sacramento starter Tyler Herb was credited with the victory for the River Cats.
The Bees will continue a seven-game home stand Thursday at 6:35 p.m. against the River Cats. Thursday is a Coors Light Thirsty Thursday with drinks available for $3. Tickets for all Bees games are available at the box office or online at slbees.com.
