Gateway Grizzlies News Release
Evansville, IN - The Gateway Grizzlies scored two runs in the fourth and the sixth innings against the Evansville Otters on Friday night, but allowed the home team to plate three runs in the bottom of both innings in a 6-4 loss at Bosse Field.
The Grizzlies were able to score first in the game when Trevor Achenbach led off the fourth inning by reaching third base on an error by J.R. Davis, then scored on an RBI groundout by Peter Zimmermann for a 1-0 lead. Clint Freeman then doubled, and advanced to third base on a ground ball before scoring on a Jay Prather RBI single for a 2-0 lead.
But in the bottom of the inning the Otters rallied against Carson LaRue, who departed after loading the bases, then giving up a two-run single to Miles Gordon to make it 2-2. Steven Sensley lifted a sacrifice fly into the outfield to make the score 3-2 Otters.
Gateway would then mount another charge in the sixth against Brice Stuteville, chasing the rookie starter from his pro debut with back-to-back singles by Achenbach and Zimmermann. Freeman then reached on an error by Gary Mattis to tie the game at 3-3 and put runners at the corners with still no outs. Two batters later, Prather reached on a fielder's choice to put the Grizzlies in front 4-3.
But again, they could not keep the lead in the bottom half- Jeffrey Baez tied the game with a solo home run off Andres Rodriguez (0-1), and would score two more runs in the inning after again loading the bases, this time on a two-run single by Mattis for the final 6-4 margin.
The Grizzlies will look to even the series on Saturday, June 11, at Bosse Field. J.P. Williams will make the start on the mound for Gateway.
