Utah Grizzlies News Release
Logan, Utah - The Idaho Steelheads defeated the Utah Grizzlies 4-3 in preseason action Friday night at the Eccles Ice Center in Logan.
The Grizzlies took a 1-0 lead 10:06 into the first period and 40 seconds into their second power-play as Luke Sellars held in an Idaho clearing attempt and fired a shot from the high-slot through traffic and past Idaho goaltender Richard Bachman.
The Utah power-play struck again, giving them a 2-0 lead, 4:02 into the second period. Again Sellars, in the high-slot got the action started; throwing in a shot that was blocked. The lose puck was picked up by Tom May and hammered home by Shay Guthrie, who was standing just to the left of the net. Idaho made it 2-1 with a power-play goal of their own at 6:56 of the second. Utah reclaimed their two-goal lead with their first five-on-five goal of the evening as Jason Dale, in his own zone, fed Scott Thauwald who skated in on a breakaway, backhanding home Utah's third goal of the evening to make the score 3-1, 14:59 into the second period.
The Steelheads rallied in the third period with two goals in a span of 2:08; at 8:00 and 10:08 to tie the game at three. They then capped off their three-goal third period with 3:45 remaining on a Kyle Radke score that ultimately became the game-winning goal.
Utah and Idaho meet again in preseason action Saturday in McCall, Idaho. Face-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
The Grizzlies open the season Friday, October 16 in Las Vegas at 8 p.m., before returning home to again host Idaho on Friday and Saturday, October 23 and 24 in the home opening weekend at the E-Center.
