Chiefs Announce Roster Moves
October 9, 2009 - ECHL (ECHL)
Johnstown Chiefs News Release
JOHNSTOWN, Pa. - The Johnstown Chiefs announced today that they have signed four players to contracts who were in camp with the team and released two players.
Forwards Tyler Hirsch, Troy Schwab and Marc Rechlicz along with goalie Shane Connelly were released from their tryout agreements and signed to standard contracts. Center Jason Silverthorn and goalie Jimmy Spratt were released.
Hirsch returns to Johnstown after beginning his ECHL career here in December of 2007. The Bloomington, Minnesota native produced 30 points (11G, 19A) in 31 games before being traded to Stockton to finish the season.
Schwab begins his pro career this season after playing four years at Lake Superior State (NCAA). A strong leader, Schwab became one of only three players in Lake Superior's history to wear the captain's "C" for more than one season (2007-08 & 2008-09). He could also put up points and became the first Laker in 11 years to notch 100 career points and finished with 110 (31G, 79A).
Rechlicz will bring some muscle to the Chiefs' lineup. The 6-4, 200-pound native of Milwaukee, Wisconsin began his pro career with 15 games for the Odessa Jackalopes last season. He did not register a point, but racked up 60 penalty minutes before missing the rest of the season with an injury. Rechlicz had two fights against Wheeling's Thomas Harrison in the Chiefs' fist exhibition game on Wednesday.
Connelly wrapped up his four-year career at the University of Wisconsin with a 19-win season in 2008-09. The Cheltenham, Pennsylvania native won 41 games as a Badger including three games for the 2006 NCAA National Championship team.
