Elmira Jackals News Release
The Elmira Jackals kicked off their "Ten Years in the Twin Tiers" season in exciting fashion Friday night, battling back from a 4-2 second period deficit and eventually forcing overtime with the Trenton Devils at First Arena in the 2009-2010 preseason opener. The Devils beat the Jackals in the extra session on a goal by Dan Eves.
Justin and Tyler Donati, twin brothers making their first appearance as teammates in the professional ranks, highlighted the evening for the Jackals, as Justin had two points, including the Jackals first goal of the game, and Tyler notched three points, with two goals and an assist on Justin's lone goal.
The Devils' held a 4-2 lead late in the second period when Tyler Donati converted on the power play for the first time at 19:10 on assists from Wes Cunningham and Ben Wright to cut the deficit to one.
Olivier Proulx, beginning his seventh season of professional hockey, tied the score at 4-4 just 49 seconds into the third period. However, Jeff Prough gave Trenton the lead at 4:26 of the third period on the power play.
Tyler Donati's second goal of the contest at 6:37 of the third period would eventually send the game into overtime and was the fourth goal on the power play for the Jackals. The Jackals power play had not converted four times since March 14, 2008 against Reading.
Eves' goal in overtime came on a two-on-one Trenton rush, as Eves beat Jackals goaltender Michael-Lee Teslak stick side at 2:16 for the game-winning goal.
Elmira put 36 shots on Devils goaltender Dave Caruso, who made 31 saves in the winning effort. Teslak made 25 saves on 31 Trenton shots.
The Jackals host the Reading Royals in the team's second and final preseason game Saturday night at 7:35 PM at First Arena.
