Grizzlies End Road Trip with Win in Normal

NORMAL, IL - Ryan Juarez picked up his third consecutive win as the Gateway Grizzlies defeated the Normal Cornbelters 3-2 on Monday night at The Corn Crib. The Grizzlies snapped a three game losing streak and avoided the series sweep with the win.

Juarez (3-1) fired seven innings, his longest outing in professional baseball. Juarez gave up two runs and scattered seven hits.

Gateway (28-37) got on the board in the fourth inning with a Chris Sedon RBI single.

Normal (32-34) wasted no time taking over the lead, scoring two runs on four hits in the fourth inning. Steven Alexander drove in a run with a double and Ahsif Shah recorded an RBI single.

Down 2-1, the Grizzlies tied the game in the fifth on a solo homer by DJ Fitzgerald, his second of the season with Gateway.

Fitzgerald struck again in the seventh inning. With Brian Harris on second, Fitzgerald drove him in to give the Grizzlies a 3-2 lead.

Gateway held on with Nick Walters, Richard Barrett and Chris Enourato combining to pitch the final two innings. Enourato picked up his seventh save of the summer.

The Grizzlies begin a six-game homestand on Tuesday night at GCS Ballpark. The Grizzlies welcome in the Joliet Slammers on Tuesday. Rookie right-hander Blake Barber (4-2) gets the start in game one of the series. First pitch is set for 7:05 CT at GCS Ballpark.
