Washington Wild Things News Release
AVON, Ohio- The Washington Wild Things, presented by Washington Financial, defeated the Lake Erie Crushers 5-2 Monday night at All Pro Freight Stadium.
Washington took control of the game early, when Luis Rivera smacked a two run homer over the fence and drove in Scott Lawson.
The Wild Things added three more runs in the second inning. Kevyn Feiner doubled and drove in Blake Ochoa in the second inning. Chris Sidick then doubled to plate Feiner. Sidick scored on a Doug Thennis single, giving Washington a 5-0 edge.
The Wild Things kept the Crushers off the board until the bottom of the fourth inning when designated hitter Kellen Kulbacki doubled to drive home shortstop Andrew Davis. Kulbacki then scored when third baseman Evan Sharpley singled, narrowing Washington's lead.
Justin Hall (7-4) got the win for Washington, allowing only two runs on seven hits, with no walks and ten strikeouts in eight innings of work. Taylor Wulf closed for The Wild Things.
Lake Erie starter, Paul Fagan (4-9) who took the loss, threw seven innings, allowing five runs on six hits, with one walk and seven strikeouts. Relievers, Chris Allen and Kelyn Schellenberg combined to pitch two innings for Lake Erie.
The Wild Things return to CONSOL Energy Park on Tuesday, August 2, to host the Evansville Otters in a three-game series. Pre-game coverage begins at 6:25 p.m. on 95.3 FM WJPA.
