Hawks Sweep at WC for First Time in Seven Years

CRESTWOOD, Ill. - The Rockford RiverHawks finished their first series sweep at Windy City in seven years with a 6-5 win in a Monday matinee at Standard Bank Stadium.

Luis Parache led off the third inning with a home run for the RiverHawks. The RiverHawks never trailed and swept the ThunderBolts in Crestwood for the first time since Aug. 19-21, 2004, during Rockford's run to that year's Frontier League pennant.

The RiverHawks added three unearned runs in the sixth inning against former teammate Guido Fonseca, Jr., who signed with the ThunderBolts on Monday. Fonseca (2-8) allowed one hit - Parache's homer - struck out four and walked one in 5 2/3 innings, but took the loss.

Rockford starter Joe Scumaci (4-2) combined with the bullpen on a five-hitter and got the win. The former ThunderBolt gave up a run on four hits and four walks over 5 2/3 innings and got the win.

The `Bolts rallied against the Rockford bullpen for two runs in the seventh and two in the eighth. Devin Shepherd cut Rockford's lead to a run with a two-out RBI infield hit in the eighth. Shepherd was 2-for-2 and walked three times.

Rockford closer Brett Durand pitched a perfect ninth inning for his 15th save of the season and second of the series. Each of the three games was decided by four runs or less. Durand finished two one-run games in the series.

The RiverHawks' next home game is 7:05 p.m. Tuesday against Southern Illinois. Petco sponsors Dog Days of Summer. Fans are invited to bring their pooch to the park. It's also a Thompson's Transmissions Kids Eat Free Night.
