Gateway Grizzlies News Release
EVANSVILLE-Charlie Lisk hit a pair of home runs Sunday night to lead the visiting Gateway Grizzlies past the Evansville Otters 5-4 in front of 2,874 at Bosse Field. The Grizzlies won the series, winning the first and last game of the series.
Lisk opened the scoring in the fourth. He led off the inning with his 15th homer run of the year to put the Grizzlies (29-25) up 1-0. Alex Kerins hit a triple to left later in the inning to score John Alonso and put the Grizzlies up 2-0.
Mike Breyman made it 3-0 Grizzlies with a sacrifice fly in the fifth inning.
Evansville (26-28) got on the board with a pair of runs in the fifth inning off Grizzlies starter Brandon Williams. That made it 3-2 Grizzlies.
Williams (6-2) earned the win with six innings of work. He allowed two runs on five hits. He struck out four.
Breyman and Lisk led off the seventh inning with back-to-back home runs to extend the Grizzlies lead back to three runs at 5-2, but it was short-lived.
Lisk finished the night 3-5 with the two long balls. Breyman was 2-3 with the homer and two RBIs.
The Otters answered with two runs of their own in the bottom of the seventh off Grizzlies reliever Demetri White. Newly acquired lefty Mike Castrignano retired the final batter of the seventh, and the first hitter of the eighth before giving way to closer Zack Gray. Gray tossed the final 1.2 innings without allowing a base runner to earn his sixth save of the year.
The Grizzlies return home Monday night to begin a three-game series against the Rockford RiverHawks at GCS Ballpark. Game time is 7:05 p.m.
