Kalamazoo Kings News Release
The Kalamazoo Kings played a doubleheader Sunday afternoon against the Florence Freedom. In the first game, the Kings defeated the Freedom 5-1 behind John Brownell's complete game five hitter. Brownell only allowed one run in seven innings to improve his record to 9-1. Destan Makonnen hit a two run HR in the second inning to provide an early lead while Joe Ramos had a 3 for 3 game.
In the second game, the Kings lost a classic pitcher's duel 1-0 in eight innings. Joe DiPietro squared off against Everett Saul for seven scoreless innings, each only allowing three hits. However, in the eighth inning DiPietro walked the leadoff batter who moved to second on a groundout. DiPietro recorded one more out before being pulled for closer Brandon Parillo. Parillo allowed a single to Garth McKinney which scored the go-ahead run.
