River City Rascals News Release

Loves Park, IL - Rockford RiverHawk All-Star Garrett Bauer pitched like one Sunday night, striking out twelve while downing the River City Rascals 7-3 at Road Ranger Stadium.

Rockford added to their star pitching performance with seven RBI all with two outs and prevented the Rascals from winning their first road series of the season.

Jake Laber started for River City and gave up a two out home run to Robert Sabates in the bottom of the first inning.

The game would stay at 2-0 all the way to the seventh inning. During that stretch the Rascals went 0-5 with runners in scoring position.

Sabates scratched out another two out base knock off reliever Jonathan Miller in the seventh inning to make it 3-0.

Bauer finally ran into trouble in the eighth inning after Andrew Sweet singled to get on for Brad Hough. Hough sent a high fly ball about 313 feet over the 312 foot wall down the right field line to bring the Rascals to within a run. Two batters later Ryan Wehrle found himself in scoring position with just one out, but Bauer struck out Chris Raniere looking and got Curt Marshall to pop out to end the threat.

Miller and Brian Logan combined to give up four runs with two outs in the bottom half of the inning. Anthonsen tripled in two, Carlos Rivera doubled in another and Jason James doubled in the seventh Rockford run to make it 7-2.

Right-hander Shawn Balteff was brought in for the ninth and gave up a lead off home run to Jacob DeBoer, his first of the season. Two outs later the Rascals had the tying run at the plate, but pinch hitter Jeff Miller flied out to center to end the game.

Bauer (6-3) went eight innings giving up seven hits for the win. Laber (0-2) went 6.1 innings, allowing three runs on six hits in the loss.

River City (25-29) returns back home for a six game home stand starting Monday night at 7:05 p.m. against the Southern Illinois Miners. Mondays are Purina Mighty Dog Mondays with dogs allowed at the park and $1 hot dogs. Aramark will be providing the first 1,000 fans through the gates with 2007 replica jersey balls.
