Washington Wild Things News Release
Washington, PA - The Washington Wild Things, presented by Washington Federal Savings Bank, blew a two-run lead in the top of the ninth inning in game three of their series against the Chillicothe Paints, only to take back the lead for the win in the bottom of the ninth.
Wild Things' catcher Josh Eachues got his sixth RBI of the series on a two-run double in the bottom of the ninth that gave Washington the 6-5 win. Every game in the series was decided in the final inning. Nathan Messner's three-run walk-off homerun gave Washington the 1-0 series lead, then Jeff Vincent bunted a run in the top of the eleventh inning to win game two for Chillicothe.
Jacob Dempsey hit his team-best eighth homerun in the win, and Arnett followed up three batters later with an RBI to extend the lead to 4-2 before the Paints three-run ninth inning.
J.J. Hollenbeck pitched seven innings for Washington, allowing just two runs on three hits. The Wild Things bullpen struggled to keep the Paints off the bases in the final two innings, allowing six hits and three runs. Rick Austin was credited with his first win of the season.
The Wild Things hit the road for series against Kalamazoo and Traverse City, and return home when the Paints come back to town on July 27 for another three-game series.
