Grizzlies Drop Preseason Finale In Idaho

McCall, Idaho - The Idaho Steelheads scored three third period goals to defeat the Utah Grizzlies 5-2 Saturday night at the Manchester Ice and Events Centre in ECHL preseason action.
Matt McKnight scored the game-winning goal for Idaho with 7:15 left in regulation. Idaho then added an empty-net goal with 1:40 left and another score 22 seconds later.
Utah battled back from a one-goal deficit in each the first and second periods; tying the score at one and two with power-play goals. Josh Meyers fired a puck from the slot past Idaho goaltender Rejean Beauchemin in the first and Shea Guthrie added his second power-play goal in two evenings to tie the score at two headed to the second intermission.
Tamio Stehrenberger, who played college hockey at Brigham Young University, kept the game close until late as he got the start in goal for Utah. In their final preseason match, Ryan Kinasewich, James Sixsmith, Vladimir Nikiforov and Luke Sellars were all healthy scratches and did not make the trip with the team to Idaho.
The Grizzlies open the season Friday in Las Vegas at 8 p.m., before returning home to again host Idaho on Friday and Saturday, October 23 and 24 in the home opening weekend at the E-Center.
