Elmira Jackals News Release

The Elmira Jackals earned their first win of the 2009-2010 preseason, scoring two more power play goals to beat the Reading Royals 3-1 at First Arena in the Jackals final tune up for the 2009-2010 regular season. The Jackals totaled six power play goals over their two preseason games this season.

The first of two Jackals power play goals came in the first period at 5:14, as Olivier Proulx redirected a Jean-Francois David shot from the blue line that bounced past Regan for the 1-0 lead.

Chaz Johnson had the game-winning goal on the man advantage at 7:19 of the second period, as he beat Reading goaltender Kevin Regan five hole for the Jackals second power play goal of the contest, giving Elmira a 2-1 lead.

Ben Gordon had tied the game earlier for the Royals in the second period at 4:51, knocking home a rebound past Jackals goaltender Michael-Lee Teslak, who was named the Wallin Insurance First Star, making 31 saves on 32 Royals shots. Teslak rebounded nicely from the Jackals preseason opener on Friday, October 9 in which he gave up six goals in a 6-5 Jackals overtime loss to the Trenton Devils.

Proulx scored his second goal on an empty-netter, taking a feed from Chanse Fitzpatrick and flicking the puck into the vacant goal at 19:19 of the third period for the game's final tally and giving the Jackals the 3-1 win.

Regan made 25 saves in the losing effort for Reading. It was Teslak's lone victory of the preseason.

The Elmira Jackals kick off their regular season on Friday, October 16 at 7:35 PM against the Cincinnati Cyclones at First Arena. The festivities begin at 5 PM with the Jackals Block Party, with events all evening until the drop of the puck.
