Utah Grizzlies News Release
West Valley City, Utah - The Utah Grizzlies completed the 2012-2013 regular season with a 4-3 shootout win against the Colorado Eagles Saturday night at Maverik Center before 7,091 fans.
Utah opens the playoffs Tuesday and Wednesday in Ontario after finishing the regular season 8-3-1-5 in their last 17 games.
"We were real happy with the guys, we rested some of our bigger guns and they still came out and got the job done," said Grizzlies Assistant Coach Greg McCauley. "Our hats off to our depth on our team and how the guys competed, we did what it took and got the two points."
Utah goaltender Shane Owen stopped 41 of 44 shots and four-straight in the shootout to earn the win in his first start since February 16. Colin Vock tied the game at one in the shootout and David Eddy scored the shootout winner in round number four.
The Grizzlies tied the game with 13:39 left in regulation on Brent Gwidt's first pro goal 3:19 after Colorado took a 3-2 lead on a shorthanded goal 3:19 earlier.
Utah battled back from a 1-0 first period deficit to tie as Jordan Clendenning took a feed from David Eddy for his ninth goal of the year and second in two nights with 1:43 left in the first. Utah took a 2-1 lead on Berkley Scott's 12th goal of the year 6:46 into the second period as he scored on a breakaway. Colorado tied on a power-play, shortly after Utah killed two-straight minutes down five-on-three.
The Grizzlies open the playoffs Tuesday and Wednesday in Ontario before returning home for games three and four Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. from Maverik Center. Tickets for the playoffs are on sale now at utahgrizzlies.com, the Maverik Center box office or any Ticketmaster location.
