Corpus Christi Hooks News Release
SAN ANTONIO - Texas League president Tom Kayser has named a pair of Hooks hurlers as replacements to the South Division All-Star Team.
Evan Grills and Edison Frias head to Springfield next week in place of Frisco's Adam Parks (season-ending injury) and Brendan McCurry (promotion to Triple-A Fresno), respectively, and will join six other Hooks for the mid-season classic at Hammons Field.
After promotion from Advanced-A Lancaster on May 13, Grills made his Double-A debut that night in the second game of a doubleheader against Frisco at Whataburger Field. The Canadian left-hander threw seven innings of one-hit ball and struck out five RoughRiders in a 6-0 win. His 1.98 ERA is second in the current starting rotation, and the May 13 outing is the only complete game by a Hooks pitcher this season.
Frias has been a steady presence as a starter and reliever in 2016, boasting a 3-0 record and 2.74 ERA during 10 appearances (five starts). Since coming off the disabled list on May 29, he has allowed four runs over four outings, including a six-inning gem June 16 at Frisco-a 2-0 win to clinch the South Division first-half title for Corpus Christi.
