
Griffins trim four from roster

Grand Rapids, Mich. â The Grand Rapids Griffins of the American Hockey League on Sunday assigned defensemen Dave Van Drunen and Jon Insana to the Muskegon Fury of the United Hockey League, assigned goaltender Logan Koopmans to the Toledo Storm of the ECHL, and released forward Jeff Hutchins.
The team's training camp roster now stands at 21, including 17 Detroit Red Wings-contracted players, two who are signed to Griffins contracts (Travis Richards and Blake Sloan), and two AHL free agents with significant Griffins experience (Ryan Barnes and Kory Karlander).
Starting with a 10 a.m. practice Monday at Griff's IceHouse, the Griffins will begin preparations in earnest for their regular season opener against the Cleveland Barons, set for this Friday, Oct. 15 at 7:30 p.m. at Van Andel Arena. For "Griffins Opening Night," presented by Foremost Insurance, the first 5,000 fans will receive a pair of Foremost CheerStix, and everyone will get a Griffins magnetic schedule. Fans will enjoy a pre-game laser and pyrotechnics show, and world famous Lou "Simon Says" Goldstein will entertain the crowd during intermission.
Griffins tickets can be purchased through Star Tickets Plus outlets (222-4000 or 800-585-3737), West Michigan Meijer locations and The Zone at Van Andel Arena, or by visiting griffinshockey.com. Single ticket prices are $5, $13 and $15 in the arena's upper bowl, and $17, $20 and $25 in the lower bowl.
