
Griffin, Powell Lead Legends Past Vipers in OT

MCALLEN, TX, (Mar. 25, 2015) - The Texas Legends posted a new season-high in both points and assists on the road against the Rio Grande Valley Vipers Wednesday night. In their first overtime minutes of the season, the Legends outscored the Vipers 10-6 to take home the 154-150 victory.
The two teams battled for control through all four quarters with 19 total tie-ups and 25 lead changes. The Legends found their largest lead of the night, and the largest of the game, nearing the halfway mark of the first quarter as they took a seven-point advantage over RGV. Texas would go up by seven again at the 1:32 mark, but two long shots later the Vipers were back in and the two teams found themselves tied at 43 at the buzzer. Jarrid Famous went four-for-four from the free throw line in the second quarter, knocking down two at the end to give the Legends control 72-71 at halftime.
The second half saw much of the same as the two teams tied for 37 each in the third to keep the Legends up by one heading into the final minutes. The Legends shot 58% in the fourth to the Vipers' 48% but were out-rebounded 19-4. Glen Rice Jr snagged both free throws with 3.2 seconds on the clock to put the Vipers up by two before Powell dropped a buzzer-beater to send the game to overtime. The Legends had four players see the scoreboard in the extra three minutes of play, outlasting Clint Capela's 6 points for RGV and stealing the 154-150 victory over the home team.
Each member of the Legends' starting lineup scored over 18 points each. Eric Griffin led the way with 35 points, 4 rebounds and 4 blocks while Powell followed closely with 34 points, 10 rebounds and 8 assists. Mike James added 25 points and a game-high 15 assists while Famous added another big double-double of 19 points and a team-high 15 rebounds. Justin Dentmon rounded off the Legends' double-digit scores with 26 points, 5 rebounds and 9 assists.
The Vipers had seven players in double digits and five grabbed double-doubles. Clint Capela tied Griffin's 35 points to lead the Vipers while also grabbing 15 boards. Glen Rice Jr added 31 points, 7 rebounds and 10 assists. Tony Bishop added 17 points and a game-high 17 rebounds while Jarvis Threatt added 15 points, 13 assists.
