Oklahoma City Blue News Release
EL SEGUNDO, Calif., March 25, 2015 - In a back-and-forth game that featured 31 lead changes, the Oklahoma City Blue forced overtime with the Los Angeles D-Fenders before falling 106-105 on Wednesday.
A trio of Blue guards scored 19 or more points while each distributing at least six assists. Frank Gaines led the Blue in scoring with 24 points alongside six dimes. Dwight Buycks produced 21 points, seven assists, five boards and four steals and Semaj Christon finished with 19 points, seven assists and five rebounds.
Maurice Sutton put together his fourth double-double in his last seven games with 13 points and 10 rebounds while Josh Huestis scored nine points and blocked four shots.
The D-Fenders won the opening period 23-19 before taking a 43-32 lead with four minutes to play in the half. The Blue closed out the quarter with a 12-4 run to head into the half down 47-44. Oklahoma City outscored the D-Fenders 26-25 in the third to narrow LA's lead to one with 12 minutes to play in regulation.
Los Angeles built an 89-82 lead midway through the fourth, but Oklahoma City used a 12-2 surge to go ahead 94-91 at the 2:30 mark. The D-Fenders re-took the lead and held a three-point advantage after a pair of free throws at the 37.3 second mark. On the following possession, Christon hustled to save an offensive rebound that led to Gaines setting up Christon for a game-tying three-pointer with 19.6 seconds remaining. The Blue defense halted LA on its last chance in regulation to force overtime.
The D-Fenders built a five point lead with 18.4 seconds to play in the three minute overtime period but the Blue continued to fight, bringing it to within one point after a free throw by Buycks and a deep three from Gaines, but it wasn't enough to complete the comeback.
Oklahoma City (25-21) dished out 26 assists while forcing 24 LA turnovers.
Los Angeles (15-31) was led by Vander Blue with 27 points, nine rebounds and three assists.
The Blue has a quick turnaround, facing the Bakersfield Jam on Thursday night in California. The game will air live on YouTube at 9 p.m. For more information, visit OklahomaCityBlue.com.
