Greg Walters to Remain Head Coach

Sarnia Sting Director of Hockey Operations Dino Ciccarelli along with General Manager Terry Doran are pleased to announce Greg Walters will remain as Head Coach of the Sting through the remainder of the 2003-04 Ontario Hockey League season.
Greg was named Interim Head Coach following the dismissal of Jeff Perry on December 15.
In making the announcement of the removal of the interim tag to head coach Ciccarelli commented Walters has earned this opportunity. "Greg has done a very good job since taking on the head coaching responsibilities. We as an organization are finally all on the same page in how we address issues both on and off the ice. Greg has earned the respect of the players. He has infused a great deal of enthusiasm into the team and we believe we are moving forward in a very positive direction."
Ciccarelli says the organization took a great deal of time in making this decision, "We feel this is the right decision for this team at this time. We received many applications, spoke to some very qualified coaches and sought permission to discuss our opening with others under contract in both the OHL and NHL. This has proven to be a difficult time of year to address the coaching position as some of the candidates who we are interested in are locked into contracts."
The Sting will reevaluate its coaching position at the conclusion of the season. Ciccarelli says Walters could be the Head Coach for years to come. "Greg will be evaluated over the remainder of this season. At the end of the season Terry and I will sit down and chart a course of action. If the team is successful in the playoffs I am inclined to think that will bode well for Greg."
