Spirit Beat Petes 4-2, Lees Leads with Hat Trick

The Saginaw Spirit picked up their second road win of the season against the Eastern Conference Peterborough Petes, 4-2 on Thursday night. Spirit forward Nick Lees lead the way with a hat trick, scoring a short handed goal, even strength and on the power play. Spirit forwards Jesse Gimblett and Justin McCutcheon also contributed two point nights on assists.

The Petes scored first in the first period but Nick Lees answered just 16 seconds later. The Spirit took the lead on a Sean Courtney's second goal in a Spirit uniform. The Spirit scored again early in the second period on a Nick Lees shorthanded goal, his fourth shorthanded tally of the season. Goaltender Eric Pfligler contributed with an assist on the Lees goal. Peterborough would score again. To cut the lead to 3-2 before Lees got the hat trick on the power play on a bad angle shot to end scoring at 4-2 in favor of Saginaw.

Spirit goaltender Eric Pfligler had 28 shots in the win. The Spirit will take their 12-27-2-3 record into Guelph on Friday to play the Storm. The Spirit complete their road trip in Erie on Saturday before returning home on Saturday, January 24th versus the Sarnia Sting. It's Staples Mouse Pad night for fans.
