Mississauga St. Michael's Majors News Release
MISSISSAUGA, ON â The Toronto St. Michael's Majors traveled to Mississauga this evening to face off against the Central Division-leading IceDogs. And, for the fourth game in a row, they beat their regional rivals; this time by a 4-3 count with a sudden-death goal coming in the extra frame.
The game started an hour late due a terrible snowstorm taking place in the region. However, the two offences weren't left out in the cold as five goals were scored in the 1st period. Darryl Boyce got the ball rolling for the Majors at 4:47 off a feed from Dustin VanBallegooie. Danny Revelle responded for the IceDogs at 9:39 with assists going to Ryan Stokes and Mark O'Leary. However, the Majors quickly produced a 2-goal margin when Cory Vitarelli and Sal Peralta struck at 14:30 and 15:50, respectively. Vitarelli's goal came on an unassisted effort while Peralta got help from Tyler Haskins. Finally, Chad Painchaud provided his own unassisted tally for the home squad at 17:57.
After all of the 1st period fireworks, there was no scoring in the middle frame. However, numerous power-plays allowed the IceDogs to outshoot the Majors 18-5.
In the 3rd period, the Majors had a glorious opportunity to extend their lead when they enjoyed a lengthy 2-man advantage, but weren't able to convert. This ended up haunting them as Anthony Butera notched a power-play goal for the âDogs at 15:36, with helpers going to Patrick O'Sullivan and Kyle Quincey. However, Evgeny Kadatskiy solidified the extra point for the Majors at 3:32 of overtime with assists going to VanBallegooie and Haskins once again.
The total shots were 43 for the IceDogs and 28 for the Majors. The game's netminders were Justin Peters for the Majors and Doug Groenestege for the IceDogs. Due to their fine performances, Kadatskiy and Peters were handed the 1st and 2nd stars, respectively, while Butera slid into the 3rd spot.
The Majors record now sits at 22-16-4-1. They will be back at the St. Michael's College School Arena to face off against the Windsor Spitfires on Friday, January 16th at 7:30 pm. Then, they host the Sudbury Wolves at 2:00 pm on Sunday, January 18th. The latter contest will feature the Majors' 2nd Annual Charity Snow Bash at St. Michael's College School Arena.
