Winston-Salem Dash News Release
GREENVILLE, S.C. - The Winston-Salem Dash fell to the Greenville Drive 16-3 on Thursday night in the third of a six-game series at Fluor Field.
Yusniel Padron-Artilles took the mound for Greenville and gave the Dash the first run of the game on a balk to plate Yolbert Sanchez in the top of the first inning.
The 1-0 Winston-Salem lead fell apart rapidly, as the Drive bats exploded on newcomer Bailey Horn. Horn allowed seven runs, all earned through only one-third of an inning. Three of the seven runs came from a homer off the bat of Tyreque Reed to mark Reed's 12th longball of the season. Horn was replaced by Edgar Navarro, who allowed a run of his own after a double and a walk. By the end of the first inning, the Drive had raced past the Dash 8-1.
Navarro returned to the mound in the second frame and continued to struggle, allowing the leadoff man Elih Marrero to double into left field. Navarro then walked three more batters to score Marrero, extending the Greenville edge by one more.
Trey Jeans entered with the bases loaded and immediately gave up a double from Tyler Dearden to drive in three runs, pushing Greenville further ahead 12-1. Jeans eventually tightened up and pitched out of the inning.
Yoelqui Cespedes said his piece in the third inning as he clobbered a solo shot over the center field wall to mark his third homer on the year.
The Drive welcomed Wilber Perez to the mound in the fourth with a few more moonshots of their own. Cameron Cannon led off with his sixth homer on the year-a solo blast to left field. Tyreque Reed tacked on two more with a home run to center field, moving the Drive ahead 15-2.
The home run parade was countered minimally in the fifth as Yolbert Sanchez knocked his fourth of the year to put another on the board for Winston-Salem.
Greenville snuck another run across in the sixth as Ricardo Cubillan doubled to score Tyreque Reed and move ahead 16-3.
Play continued after a short rain delay before the top of the seventh, but neither team scored again and the Dash fell to Greenville 16-3. Bailey Horn (0-1) took a loss, while Yusniel Padron-Artilles (2-2) penned the win.
The Dash move behind 2-1 in the series, which continues on Friday night at Fluor Field. Taylor Varnell will toe the rubber for the Dash. Jay Groome will start for the Drive. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. ET.
