Greenville, S.C. - Brian Van Belle started for the Drive and completed 5.0 shutout innings while Oddanier Mosqueda pitched 2.0 innings and Cody Scroggins and Zach Bryant each hurled 1.0 inning to shutout the Ironbirds and win, 1-0, behind a Wil Dalton solo home run Thursday night at Fluor Field.
The victory represented the first shutout triumph for Greenville this year.
Van Belle earned the win, his second of the year. The right-hander tossed 5.0 scoreless innings and relented just four hits and one walk with seven strikeouts, tying a career high. Bryant got the save, his first of the year. Mosqueda, who fanned four, and Scroggins, making his Drive debut, were credited with a hold. The four pitchers combined to face 33 Aberdeen hitters, six over the minimum.
Dalton's solo homer traveled 388 ft. and left the bat at 98 MPH. Cam Cannon registered the only two-hit performance of the night, extending his hit-streak to 10-games. Tyreque Reed collected one hit to push his hitting streak to 12.
Greenville took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning. Dalton led off the frame and scorched an 0-1 pitch to the left-center gap for a solo clout.
Game four is scheduled for 7:05 Friday at Fluor Field. The Drive are set to throw Grant Gambrell while the Ironbirds are slated to start Jake Prizina.
