A four-run rally in the sixth inning wiped out a Lexington lead as the Augusta GreenJackets won the opener of a four-game series 7-2 at Lake Olmstead Stadium in Augusta Tuesday night.
The GreenJackets took the lead in the second inning. Andy D'Alessio led off with a double, moved to third on a fly ball to right field by Juan Perez, and scored on a wild pitch by Lexington starter Ross Seaton.
Lexington moved on top in the fifth. With two outs and Jorge De Leon at first base following a fielder's choice, Jay Austin doubled to left center field, moving De Leon to third. Eric Suttle singled to score Austin and De Leon to give the Legends a 2-1 lead.
Augusta reclaimed the lead for good with four runs in the bottom of the sixth. With one out, singles by Perez and Ehire Adrianza put runners at first and second. After Seaton was relieved by Henry Villar, Johnny Monell doubled to score two runs and Vladimir Frias tripled, driving in Monell. Dom Duggan's two out bunt single scored Frias from third with the fourth run of the inning, making the score 5-2.
Duggan's two-run double with two out in the eighth closed out the scoring. Augusta starter Eric Stolp (3-1) was the winning pitcher. Seaton (6-7) was the loser.
The two teams will play again Wednesday night at 7:05 p.m.
