Hagerstown Suns News Release
HAGERSTOWN, MD -- For the third night in a row, the Hagerstown Suns (1-5) lost a game in which they scored two runs in the first inning, falling 4-2 to the Kannapolis Intimidators (3-2) at Municipal Stadium on Tuesday night.
In each of their previous two games on the road against the Lake County Captains, the Suns led 2-0 going into the bottom of the first inning, but ultimately took the loss. On Tuesday, Hagerstown responded with another pair of first-inning runs after Kannapolis scored twice in the top of the frame.
With one out in the first, second baseman Steve Lombardozzi singled to center, and catcher Derek Norris walked to bring up first baseman Tyler Moore. Coming off a two-RBI performance in Monday night's game, Moore quickly matched that effort with a double to the left-centerfield wall to score Lombardozzi and Norris and tie the game, 2-2.
Suns starter Ricardo Pecina (0-2) bounced back from a rocky first inning to shut out the Intimidators over the next three frames, but in the top of the fifth the bottom of the lineup got things going for Kannapolis. Zach Larson singled out of the No. 8 slot to lead off the inning and No. 9 hitter Eduardo Escobar followed with a double off Pecina.
With runners at second and third and no outs, right fielder Justin Greene put the Intimidators on top with an RBI groundout, and Escobar made the score 4-2 when he stole third and scored on a high throw into left field by Norris.
Kannapolis starter Stephen Sauer (4-2) made that lead hold up through six innings, and relievers Charlis Burdie and Dan Remenowsky combined for three perfect innings to close out the Intimidators' third-straight win.
Hagerstown's bullpen was strong as well, as Kevin Light followed Pecina with a pair of scoreless innings before Patrick Arnold and Osvaldo Rodriguez shut out Kannapolis in the eighth and ninth, respectively.
