
Grand Slam Leads Greensboro to 5-4 Win Over Delmarva

Greensboro, N.C. - Grasshoppers center fielder Isaac Galloway connected on a bottom of the sixth inning grand slam homer to lead Greensboro to a 5-4 win over the Delmarva Shorebirds on Friday night at NewBridge Bank Park. The Shorebirds have lost five straight games.
After four scoreless innings, the Shorebirds were first to strike in the top of the fifth inning. Jacob Julius reached on a one out single. After the second out was made, Julius stole second to get into scoring position. Then, Mikey Planeta hit a hard grounder into right field to plate Julius. Planeta reached second on an overthrow to the plate by Marcell Ozuna. Then, Mike Mooney hit a flare single down the right field line to give the Shorebirds a 2-0 lead. After John Ruettiger walked to advance Mooney to second, Brenden Webb hit a rocket liner up the middle to give the Shorebirds a 3-0 lead.
The Grasshoppers fought back in the sixth inning. Marcell Ozuna singled to open the inning and scored later on a groundout by Mark Canha. Two walks and a single loaded the bases with two outs. Ryan Palsha entered for Parker Bridwell and surrendered a grand slam homer to Isaac Galloway, which gave the Grasshoppers a 5-3 lead.
The Shorebirds trimmed the deficit in the seventh. With John Ruettiger at second, Webb hit a double down the right field line to plate Ruettiger. Webb recorded his first multi-RBI game since June 30.
Grant Dayton held the Shorebirds scoreless over the finale 2.2 innings to record his fourth save of the season.
Rett Varner earned his seventh win of the season over 6.1 innings. He allowed seven hits and four runs.
Bridwell was pinned with the loss over 5.2 innings. He allowed just four hits.
Webb and Mooney led the Shorebirds with two hits apiece.
The Shorebirds and Grasshoppers will square off in game two on Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. LHP Tim Berry is the scheduled pitcher for Delmarva.
