Rome Emperors News Release
Rome, GA -The Rome Braves defeated the Kannapolis Intimidators 7-2 Friday night at State Mutual Stadium before a crowd of 2,927 to improve to 5-0 on the home stand. The Braves bounced back from an early two run Kannapolis lead as Sean Gilmartin and the rest of the Rome pitching staff shut out the Intimidators the rest of the game. First baseman Chris Garcia went 3 for 3 with two RBI on the night
After Keenyn Walker led off the game with a triple, Dan Black (17) hit a two out homer to give the Intimidators an early 2-0 lead. The Braves cut the score to 2-1 in the bottom of the inning on an Edward Salcedo sacrifice fly. After Matt Weaver led off with a single and Tommy La Stella and Chris Garcia walked to load the bases, Salcedo brought the run home with the sacrifice fly.
In the bottom of the third La Stella and Evan Gattis got the Braves going once again with back to back singles to start off the inning. Chris Garcia then stepped in the batter's box and delivered an RBI single to score La Stella. As Gattis was trying to move to third on the hit, center fielder Trayce Thompson's attempt to throw him out sailed into the Braves' dugout allowing Gattis to score and Garcia to move up to third. Salcedo then came to the plate and hit an infield RBI single to push the score to 4-2. The Braves then took advantage of two Intimidator errors and a wild pitch to score two more runs and cap off a five run third inning and make it a 6-2 game.
The Braves continued their scoring in the bottom of the fourth when Salcedo hit his second infield RBI single. Tommy La Stella hit his second single of the night and moved around to third on two wild pitches before he scored on Salcedo's single to extend the lead to 7-2.
Gilmartin (1-1) settled down after the first inning to shut down Kannapolis for four consecutive innings followed by four scoreless innings of relief from the Braves' bullpen to seal a 7-2 victory. Jon Bachanov (2-3) takes the loss for Kannapolis.
Game two of the series will be tomorrow at 7pm with post game fireworks to follow. For ticket information, contact the Rome Braves at 706-378-5144 or log onto www.romebraves.com.
