The West Virginia Power broke a 3-3 tie with a four-run fifth inning and went on to a 7-5 victory over the Lexington Legends Friday night in the opener of a five-game series in Charleston. The Power scored two runs in the first inning. Drew Maggi led off with an infield hit and moved to second on a single by Andy Vasquez. Both runners moved up as Mel Rojas grounded out, and both scored when Justin Howard's grounder got past Delino DeShields Jr. for an error.

The Legends tied it in the third. With one out, Ruben Sosa walked and advanced to third on Emilio King's single. After DeShields popped out, King stole second and Tyler Burnett singled up the middle, scoring Sosa and King.

The Power reclaimed the lead in the bottom of the third when Maggi tripled to right field and scored on Rojas' ground out, but Lexington evened the score in the fourth on Ben Heath's solo homer. In the West Virginia fifth, Maggi walked with one out and scored on a triple by Vasquez. Rojas followed with a base hit, scoring Vasquez. After Howard walked, Chase Lyles doubled, scoring Rojas and sending Howard to third. Dan Grovatt's sacrifice fly scored Howard from third.

The Legends scored a run in the sixth on Orloff's sacrifice fly and added another on Mike Kvasnicka's solo homer in the eighth to close out the scoring.

Orlando Castro, who relieved starter Zack Dodson at the start of the fifth inning and pitched the fifth, sixth and seventh, picked up the win. Foltynewicz (5-11) was the losing pitcher .
