New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
Portland, ME - A sixth-inning grand slam from Jack Lopez turned a 4-3 nail-biter into a 9-4 defeat for the New Hampshire Fisher Cats (Blue Jays Double-A affiliate) at the hands of the Portland Sea Dogs (Red Sox) on Friday night at Hadlock Field.
The 'Cats hung with Portland for most of the night thanks to RBIs from Kevin Vicuña, Chavez Young, and Otto Lopez, but a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch put the Sea Dogs up 4-3 in the sixth inning, and Portland's Lopez put the game out of reach with a blast over the left field wall one batter later.
In his first start of the season at shortstop, Blue Jays top offensive prospect Austin Martin made a spectacular jump throw to rob Roldani Baldwin of a hit in the fifth inning, and later plated the Fisher Cats' fourth run with an RBI triple to right field in the eighth.
James Dykstra was a bright spot in New Hampshire's bullpen, allowing just one hit in two relief innings with three strikeouts in his Fisher Cats debut.
Gabriel Moreno and Demi Orimoloye each collected two hits, but Jordan Groshans saw his team-high three-game hitting streak come to an end.
New Hampshire continues the season-opening road trip at Hadlock Field through Sunday, with a 1 p.m. first pitch scheduled for Saturday's game.
The Fisher Cats home opener is set for May 11 at 6:35 p.m. against the Somerset Patriots (New York Yankees Double-A affiliate) at Delta Dental Stadium. Fans can enjoy a spectacular Atlas Fireworks show after the game, with a Magnet Schedule Giveaway from Eastern Propane & Oil.
Opening Night kicks off a six-game homestand from Tuesday through Sunday at Delta Dental Stadium, followed by another six-game series in Manchester against the Future Red Sox from May 18-23.
All 120 games will be broadcast live on the Fisher Cats flagship station, AM 610 WGIR.
