Round Rock Express News Release

ROUND ROCK - In a match-up of one team coming of a record win and another team coming off a crushing loss, Round Rock had the upper hand all along Thursday.

The Express snapped a five-game losing streak Tuesday with a 14-7 win over Oklahoma, which included a Triple-A franchise record nine doubles, and hung on for a 5-3 win over Albuquerque in the series opener Thursday at The Dell Diamond.

The Isotopes limped into Round Rock after a 17-8 loss to New Orleans at home Tuesday and were penned down by Express starter Jared Gothreaux, who made his second strong appearance in a row.

Gothreaux fanned six without a walk, allowing just two hits, both home runs. The right-hander, who made his first start against Oklahoma on April 21, has allowed three earned runs over his last 11 innings.

Six Express players had multi-hits, including Eric Bruntlett, who lifted his batting average above .200 and drove in two runs.

Round Rock opened up an early lead against Isotopes' starter and Houston native Chris George, piling on four hits in the first inning. Josh Anderson led off with a bunt single and moved to third on Brooks Conrad's shot up the middle.

Anderson moved around on Eric Munson's one-out double to left and Eric Bruntlett pushed the score to 3-0 with a single to right.

John Baker lifted a two-run homer against Gothreaux (1-0) in the fourth and Paul Hoover evened the score with a one-out, solo-shot to left in the fifth. But Cody Ransom's RBI-single in the bottom of the frame pushed Round Rock ahead for good. Conrad singled Saccomanno home in the bottom of the sixth, bumping the lead to two runs and pushing George (1-2) from the game.

The two teams pair of for the second of their four-game series Friday at The Dell Diamond. The game can be heard on 1260 AM or 1530 AM or at www.rrexpress.com.
