West Michigan Whitecaps News Release
COMSTOCK PARK, MI- The West Michigan Whitecaps pounded out 13 hits for 8 runs in an 8-3 victory over the South Bend Silver Hawks on Monday night at Fifth Third Ballpark. Not only did the Whitecaps hit well, they got excellent starting pitching from Adam Wilk who won his second game of the year. The âCaps assure themselves of no worse than a split in the series with the win.
Facing Brett Moorhouse has not been enjoyable for the Whitecaps this year. The right hander had controlled the Whitecaps on more than one occasion.
With the game tied at 1-1, West Michigan took control with a five-run third inning off Moorhouse. Gustavo Nunez got aboard on an error. Alden Carrithers tripled home Nunez for a 2-1 lead. Ben Guez smacked a bases-loaded double to up the lead to 4-1. Jordan Lennerton followed with an RBI single, and Mike Gosse lofted a sacrifice fly for a 6-1 Whitecaps' advantage.
West Michigan pushed two more runs across in the fifth for an 8-1 lead. Avisail Garcia and Mike Gosse had doubles, and Joe Bowen and Alden Carrithers got singles.
South Bend strung together four straight singles to start the eighth as two runners scored for an 8-3 Whitecaps lead.
