
Gosse Headed to Toledo, Mercedes Promoted from GCL

West Michigan Whitecaps News Release
The West Michigan Whitecaps, in conjunction with the Detroit Tigers, announced today that second baseman Mike Gosse has been promoted to Triple A Toledo and right-handed pitcher Melvin Mercedes has been promoted to West Michigan from the Gulf Coast League Tigers.
Gosse joined the Whitecaps June 15 and batted .263 with a home run and 28 RBI in 43 games with West Michigan. Mercedes went 1-1 with a 1.82 ERA and 20 strikeouts in 24.2 innings with GCL. He also led the GCL with 16 saves.
The Whitecaps return home Saturday, September 5 to take on the Fort Wayne TinCaps at 7:00 p.m. Individual and group tickets are on sale and can be purchased at the West Michigan Glass Block Ticket Office at Fifth Third Ballpark, by calling the Whitecaps front office at 616-784-4131 or by visiting www.whitecapsbaseball.com.
