The Famous Chicken Returning to Fifth Third Ballpark

As the regular season comes to an end, the West Michigan Whitecaps have one more big promotion left up their sleeve. The Famous Chicken will make his much anticipated return to West Michigan when the Whitecaps take on Fort Wayne on Saturday, September 5 at 7:00 p.m.

The Chicken's hilarious brand of slapstick comedy has been a mainstay at ballparks around the country for more than 30 years. He started out as a radio station promotion in San Diego in the 1970s and his popularity exploded from there.

The Chicken is widely regarded as the most famous mascot in sports history and has paved the way for other mascots to entertain fans across the globe. He has performed for U.S. Presidents and shared the stage with legendary performers such as Paul McCartney, Jimmy Buffett and The Ramones.

Over the Course of this career, The Chicken has performed at more than 8,500 games and more than 17, 000 total events. The Sporting News also named him one of the Top 100 Most Powerful People in Sports of the 20th Century.

"The Famous Chicken is as much a part of baseball as bats and gloves," said Whitecaps Promotions and Multi-Media Manager Brian Oropallo. "He's definitely a fan favorite and we're very happy to have him back at the ballpark."
