Lansing Lugnuts News Release

DAYTON, OH - John Anderson twirled five shutout innings and Mike McDade crushed a late three-run homer, lifting the Lansing Lugnuts (26-37; 52-80) over the Dayton Dragons (28-35; 56-77), 7-3, on Monday night at Fifth Third Field.

The victory gave the Lugnuts a fifth consecutive series split of a four-game series, one against each opponent in the Midwest League's Eastern Division. It also pulled Lansing within three games of South Bend for the final playoff spot in the division, setting up a Tuesday night battle between the Lugnuts and the Silver Hawks.

Anderson (3-6) held the Dragons to just three hits while striking out seven in his second start since returning from a month-long stay on the Disabled List and a brief excursion to Class A-Advanced Dunedin.

Dayton starter Jordan Hotchkiss (3-6) suffered the loss, holding the Lugnuts off the board until Chris Emanuele's solo home run in the fifth broke a scoreless tie.

Lansing added two more runs in the sixth inning against Hotchkiss, helped by a throwing error from first baseman Humberto Sosa.

A four-run eighth inning against reliever Andrew Bowman, capped off by McDade's 16th roundtripper of the year, extended the lead to 7-0.

Dayton scored three times in the bottom of the ninth off of Jason Roenicke, climaxed by a two-run homer from Sosa, to prevent the shutout.

For the Lugnuts, outfielder Welinton Ramirez went hitless in four at-bats, snapping a 10-game hitting streak that began the day he joined the club from Class Short-A Auburn on August 21.

The Lugnuts will start right-hander Ryan Shopshire on Tuesday night in South Bend, opposed by Silver Hawks left-hander Keny Sosa. The game is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. at The Cove.
