WCL Yakima Valley Pippins

Gorman's Complete Game Stifles Pippins

July 4, 2015 - West Coast League (WCL)
Yakima Valley Pippins News Release

YAKIMA, Wash. - Just about 13 hours after getting eight quality innings from Darrion Simons in a win over Walla Walla, the Yakima Valley Pippins fell victim to an impressive complete game from Walla Walla's Micah Gorman in a 7-1 loss to the Sweets Saturday afternoon.

Gorman went the distance, allowing just 5 hits, 1 run, 0 walks and 3 strikeouts on his way to the win. The only run he allowed came in the 2nd on a two-out single by David Becker, who went 2-4 in a losing effort for Yakima Valley.

While Gorman's outing was strong, the Pippins (15-11) struggled on the mound and on defense, especially in the early portion of the game. The Sweets (13-13) got their first run in the top of the 2nd on a wild pitch from starter Andrew Bernstein. Walla Walla took the lead with an unearned run in the 3rd and gained some separation with a four-run 4th inning. Bernstein allowed 6 runs over his 4 innings, but only 3 were earned.

Reliever Matt Campbell worked four quality innings in relief, allowing just 3 hits and an unearned run. In total, the Pippins committed four errors and allowed four unearned runs to the Sweets.

With the series tied at one game apiece, the two sides will meet in a rubber match Sunday evening. Please note that first pitch was changed from 5:05 pm to 7:05 pm earlier this week in an effort to avoid some of the high temperatures expected Sunday in Yakima.
