Amarillo Gorillas News Release
The Gorillas are set to face off against the Odessa Jackalopes Tuesday night at the Bank One Jungle at 7p.m. The Gorillas have been extremely successful against the Jackalopes this season with five wins; three came on home ice at The Jungle and two at the Ector County Coliseum. The Gorillas lost their first game against the Jackalopes last Tuesday in Odessa, 5-2. The Gorillas are hoping to continue their great home-ice play with a win that will help cut the San Angelo Saints' lead down to one point.
Tuesday night also marks the continuation of $5 tickets. Fans who have a ticket stub from any Friday or Saturday game can redeem their tickets at the Gorillas Office or the Civic Center Box Office only, and receive $5 tickets for Tuesday's game.
The Gorillas wrapped up their seven-game stretch Saturday night at the Bank One Jungle defeating the Lubbock Cotton Kings 3 -1. The Gorillas also had a victory against the Oklahoma City Blazers on Thursday 2 -1. However, the Gorillas were unable to conquer the New Mexico Scorpions on Friday at the Tingley Coliseum losing 4 - 3. The Gorillas finished the long stretch of games with a mark of 4-3. Amarillo has won their last five games in a row on home ice and in three of the four wins, the Gorillas have netted the first goals of the game.
Thursday night at the Bank One Jungle made for an exciting night of hockey in Amarillo as the Gorillas defeated the Blazers 2 - 1. The victory clinched a playoff birth for the Amarillo Gorillas for the second consecutive year. The Oklahoma City Blazers netted to first goal of the game, however their lead would not last long thanks to a follow-up goal less than a minute later by Henry Kuster. The 2nd-period of hockey went scoreless. Scott Wray capitalized off an assist by Kuster to give the Gorillas the game winning goal and the victory.
Friday's game at Tingley Coliseum did not produce the kind of results that the Gorillas had hoped for. The Scorpions were able to capitalize on an early 3rd-period goal by Clint Wensley, which ended up being the game-winning goal marking a 4-3 win. Mark DeSantis and Scott Wray both netted 1st-period goals,
Wray and Jason Maxwell contributed two assists in the game. Brent Currie scored his first goal and first points with the Amarillo Gorillas in the 2nd-period.
The Gorillas were back on home ice at the Bank One Jungle in front of a sell out crowd on Saturday that was equipped with thundersticks distributed by Bell Helicopter to face off against their arch-rivals the Lubbock Cotton Kings. The game produced not only great hockey, but also great fights. The Gorillas delivered one of their best showing of the year netting two 1st-period goals by Henry Kuster and John Dean. Tom Gomes drilled home the victory with a goal in the last minute of 2nd-period giving the Gorillas a 3 - 1 victory.
