Amarillo Gorillas News Release

AMARILLO, TX – Tomorrow is another huge day in the history of Amarillo professional hockey.

That's when the Amarillo Gorillas look to tie two Central Hockey League records when they face the Lubbock Cotton Kings on Wednesday night at the Lubbock Municipal Coliseum at 7 p.m. Fans can tune into the game live beginning with Gorillas Game Night at 6:40 p.m. followed by all of the action at 7 p.m. on the Bank of America Amarillo Gorillas Hockey Network with broadcaster Denis J. Puska.

A victory by the Amarillo Gorillas would tie the Central Hockey League record for most consecutive road victories of 10 set by the 2001-2002 Odessa Jackalopes, and would also equal the league mark for continuous wins (home and away combined) set by the 2001-2002 Memphis RiverKings.

The Gorillas are coming off a tremendous week where they had victories over the New Mexico Scorpions 3-1 and the Wichita Thunder 3-1, followed by two home-ice wins over the Odessa Jackalopes 4-3 and the Fort Worth Brahmas 9-1.

Amarillo still has not allowed more than three goals in a game this season and opponents are currently going 1-41 on the power play. The Gorillas are still second in goals against with 33, trailing only the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs, a team they could face to break the CHL record, at 31. Amarillo still has the second least amount of penalty minutes in the Central Hockey League.

Goaltender Shawn Degagne was rewarded for his hard work when he was selected as the Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week. The North Bay Ontario native has won his last eight straight games and has lowered his goals against average to 2.12 and save percentage to .937.

In the two years since local ownership has taken over professional hockey in Amarillo and the name was changed, the team has won more than 75 percent of its games and has a winning percentage of well over .600. Head Coach/Director of Hockey Operations and Assistant General Manager Joe Ferras and Assistant Coach Brian Pellerin have been able to assemble two very talented teams that are giving Amarillo hockey fans something to cheer about.
