Amarillo Gorillas News Release
AMARILLO, TX â The Amarillo Gorillas not only have great success on the ice winning their last 11 games in a row, but are also successful in helping several local organizations in the community.
The Gorillas teamed up with the High Plains Food Bank to collect non perishable food items for the holiday season. More than 10 barrels of food were collected at both the Gorillas Hockey Office and the Civic Center Box Office. Fans received a free game ticket with every donation of five items.
On Saturday, Nov. 22 the Gorillas helped the Coffee Memorial Blood Center with their annual Blood Drive that took place just outside the Ape Escape in the Jungle.
More than 120 people gave the gift of life from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and received a free ticket to an upcoming game as well as a commemorative t-shirt.
"We are pleased to be able to help two outstanding organizations such as the Coffee Memorial Blood Center and the High Plains Food Bank," said Director of Media Relations Denis J. Puska. "Our fans really supported us with the two endeavors and we want to thank them for helping out. This by far was our most successful food drive and blood drive that we have had in Amarillo professional hockey history."
The Gorillas have also been busy helping organizations raise money through the Shots On Goal Program. Several groups have taken time to sell tickets and collect pledges both on their own time and prior to the hockey game.
If any non-profit groups or organizations would like further information regarding the very successful Shots On Goal Program, please contact the Gorillas Hockey Office at 1934 Civic Circle or call 242-7825 and ask to speak to Mika or Stacy.
The Amarillo Gorillas will return to action on Wednesday night when they travel to Lubbock to face the Cotton Kings at 7 p.m. at the Lubbock Municipal Coliseum. If the Gorillas win the game they will tie two Central Hockey League records for most consecutive road wins at 10 and continuous wins by a team (home and away combined) at 12.
Fans can tune into all of the action on 99.7FM with the Gorillas Game Night at 6:40 p.m. followed by all of the action with the voice Denis J. Puska at 7 p.m.
