January 12, 2009 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Amarillo Gorillas News Release

Amarillo, TX 1/12/09 - During a press conference held at the Amarillo Civic Center Monday, Brian Pellerin was introduced as the fourth head coach in Gorillas history. Pellerin succeeds Tom Coolen, who parted ways with the Gorillas prior to Sunday afternoon's game against New Mexico.

The 38-year-old Pellerin will take the reigns as a head coach for the first time in his career, having served as an assistant coach for six seasons with the Gorillas and Portland Winter Hawks of the WHL. The Hinton, Alberta native played two seasons with Amarillo-one with the Rattlers in 2001-02 and one with the Gorillas in 2002-03-before retiring to pursue a career in coaching.

"Brian will bring enthusiasm into our organization as we continue through the 2008-09 season," said Gorillas Owner Randy Sanders. "We are proud to introduce him as our head coach for the remainder of the year."

As a player, Pellerin skated in 723 games as a professional with eight teams in four leagues. A free agent signee of the St. Louis Blues, Pellerin scored 150 points during a four-year junior career with the Prince Albert Raiders from 1987-91. Over the last four seasons, Pellerin has served as an assistant coach with Portland, helping develop future NHL players Braydon Coburn and Brandon Dubinsky.

Through 33 games, Amarillo is 10-23-0 and sits fourth in the Central Hockey League's Southwest Division. The Gorillas, who are in the midst of the CHL All-Star Break, will be back in action Friday night at Rio Grande Valley.
