Lancaster, PA - Andrew Dobies extended his team-best scoreless streak to 13.1 innings, locking down both his fourth career save and third consecutive win for starter Derrick Gordon as the Somerset Patriots took the opener of a five-game series over the Lancaster Barnstormers 5-3 on Friday night at Clipper Magazine Stadium.

Despite allowing a leadoff double, Dobies retired the rest of the side in order in the 9th, closing out a solid pitching performance against the top-ranked offense in the Atlantic League.

Gordon (3-0) blazed through his first two starts at home but Friday's start, in a hitter-friendly ballpark, would be a bit more taxing. The lefty gave up seven hits and three walks but worked himself out of jams, stranding eight batters in his 5.0 frames of work, allowing just two runs on back-to-back two-out solo homers in the 5th from the top two sluggers in the league in Tommy Everidge and Fernando Seguignol.

Those Lancaster runs cut a Patriot lead in half after Somerset took a 4-0 lead in the 5th. Joe Holden banged a two-run single off of Lancaster starter Cesar Carrillo, who had also surrendered a pair of solo homers to Fernando Cortez and Mike Hernandez in the 1st and 4th innings. Carrillo (1-4) lost his fourth consecutive decision despite tossing a solid 6.2 frame outing, his longest of the season, yielding just six hits.

The Barnstormers got a JC Holt RBI double off Jeff Kennard in the 7th, making it a one-run game beforeCortez added an insurance run in the 9th, giving Somerset a 5-3 cushion. Kennard and Ryan Houston combined for 3.0 innings of one-run relief to bridge the gap to Dobies.
