Camden Riversharks News Release
CAMDEN, NJ: The Camden Riversharks announced Wednesday that first baseman Mike Lamb has been acquired by the New York Yankees organization. Lamb was tied for second in the Atlantic League in hits (54), was fifth in on-base percentage (.418) and was tenth for batting average (.320). In his last 11 games he had 10 hits and three home runs which brought him to seven home runs for the year, tying him for the Riversharks lead. He recently provided the team's only offense in the 2-1 win over the Long Island Ducks on Monday, driving in the team's only runs with a single and a double.
"The Riversharks continue to provide the opportunity for players like Mike to reach the major leagues. The caliber of baseball we have here is quite impressive and that's what we want to continue to provide our fans" said Adam Lorber, GM of the Riversharks.
Mike Lamb started his major league career in 2000 with the Texas Rangers, and stayed with them until 2004 when he was signed by the Yankees, making this his second contract with New York. Before he could play a game in pinstripes he was traded to Houston where he spent the next four years. Between 2008 and 2010 Lamb spent time with the Minnesota Twins, the Milwaukee Brewers, and the Florida Marlins, and was finally signed by the Camden Riversharks in March 2011. He played a total of 975 Major League games with 746 hits, 382 runs, and a .333 on-base percentage.
After news broke that Lamb would be playing in the Yankees' system, manager Von Hayes said, "We are appreciative to what he gave us. He brought professionalism, he worked hard, and he set an example for the rest of the team. We are happy he got a chance to go back to an affiliate[d team], and hopefully he'll get a chance to play in the Major Leagues again."
The Camden Riversharks are members of the independent Atlantic League of Professional Baseball. Since 2001, the Riversharks have hosted all of their home games at Campbell's Field, located along the city's waterfront. The 2011 season, the club's 11th, is presented by Wawa. The Riversharks will open a three game homestand today, June 24, 2011 at 7:05 pm vs. the Road Warriors. The team provides a competitive baseball product, while maintaining an affordable family friendly atmosphere. For more information or tickets, go to http://www.riversharks.com/ www.riversharks.com.
