LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Louisville City FC goalkeeper Scott Goodwin has been voted the USL Player of the Week for the first week of the 2016 season as he recorded a shutout in City's 1-0 road victory against the Charlotte Independence on Saturday.

Goodwin's shutout included an outstanding penalty-kick save on Jorge Herrera in the 75th minute to keep the game scoreless before his side grabbed a dramatic winner through Cameron Lancaster's stoppage-time goal.

"Of course it always is an honor to be recognized as an individual in any game," Goodwin said. "The shutout and three points belong to the team, it's the product of everyone's hard work. I'm glad that we got to come home with the points and we're ready for our home opener on Saturday."

Goodwin, a North Carolina native, had an unbelievable performance in front of about 20 family members and friends, making three saves in the game.

Goodwin's heroics spanned the whole game, but began in the 4th minute of the match. A Charlotte strike threatened the left side of the net, but Goodwin made a diving save and kept the ball out. His penalty kick save also saw him dive to the left.

Goodwin received 53 percent of the poll conducted by a national panel of independent media representing every USL market. LA Galaxy II forward Ariel Lassiter finished second with 35 percent after his two goals led Los Dos past Arizona United SC on Saturday.

Lancaster also received recognition for his stoppage-time game-winning free kick. He bent a 25-yard blast into the top near-post corner to break the scoreless game on its final kick.
