Goodman Ties Yard Goats' Home Run Record

Manchester, NH- Catcher Hunter Goodman gave the Yard Goats an early lead, and tied the single season franchise record with his 23rd home run, but the Fisher Cats came from behind to defeat Hartford 7-5 on Thursday evening at Delta Dental Stadium in Manchester, New Hampshire. Goodman's solo blast came in the first inning, tying Brenton Doyle and Michael Toglia who both hit 23 last season. The Yard Goats had a 5-1 lead in the fourth inning, and the Fisher Cats used a four-run sixth inning to defeat Hartford for the second time in three games. Kyle Datres had his Eastern League high 16-game hit-streak come to an end.

The Yard Goats jumped to a 5-1 lead over the first three innings against Fisher Cats starter Chad Dallas. Hunter Goodman smashed a solo homer in the first inning, and after the Fisher Cats tied the game on two singles in the bottom of the first, Colin Simpson's second inning RBI double made it 2-1, and Jordan Beck's two-run double made it 4-1. Beck scored on a wild pitch, giving Hartford a 5-1 advantage.

The Fisher Cats battled against Yard Goats starter Joe Rock. Phil Clarke gave New Hampshire some life with a solo home run in the fourth inning, and Trevor Schwecke and Damiano Palmegiani put together back-to-back doubles to make it a 5-3 game in the fifth inning.

New Hampshire rallied for four runs in the sixth inning to take the lead. Clarke led off the frame with a solo homer, his second of the game and it was 5-4. After Dylan Rock walked, Bryce McGowan replaced Joe Rock. The righty got the next batter but then allowed three straight singles, including the game tying hit by Leo Jimenez and go-ahead RBI hit by Alan Roden to make it 6-5 Fisher Cats. Palmegiani contributed with a run-scoring single to make it 7-5 New Hampshire.

Fisher Cats relievers Juan Nunez and Mason Fluharty were outstanding and fired four scoreless with eight strikeouts while allowing just one hit.

The Yard Goats play the fourth of a six-game series on Friday night (7:05 PM) against the Fisher Cats in New Hampshire. RHP Connor Van Scoyoc will start for the Yard Goats and RHP Luis Quinones will pitch for the Fisher Cats. The game will be broadcast on AM 1410, FM 100.9 and on the iheart radio app. The Yard Goats return home to Dunkin' Park for their next homestand on Tuesday, August 1st to host the Reading Fightin Phils.
