
Gomes' Triple-Double Propels D-Fenders Past Bighorns

EL SEGUNDO - The D-Fenders beat the Reno Bighorns 135-118 tonight in El Segundo, CA.
Ryan Gomes notched a triple-double in three quarters of play with 18 points, 18 rebounds and 10 assists for the D-Fenders (19-16). Vander Blue scored 30 points and grabbed eight rebounds, while Justin Harper also reached the 20-point mark with 23 points and eight rebounds. Josh Magette (17 points, 10 rebounds), Justin Hawkins (15 points), Lazar Hayward (13 points), and Speedy Smith (12 points) all scored in double-figures for Los Angeles.
Erick Green (23 points, seven rebounds), Ricky Ledo (22 points), Duje Dukan (18 points), David Stockton (17 points, 13 assists) and Cliff Hammonds (14 points) all reached double-digits for Reno (23-11).
The first quarter was neck-and-neck, with the D-Fenders leading 32-31 at the end of the frame. Gomes had six points, four rebounds and four assists for Los Angeles. The Bighorns outscored the D-Fenders 28-23 in the second quarter to take a 59-55 lead into the halftime break. Gomes had 10 points, seven rebounds and six assists at the half.
Los Angeles tied a season-high with 43 points in the third quarter, outscoring Reno 43-25. Gomes had 11 rebounds, eight points and four assists in the quarter to complete his triple-double. Magette scored 10 points in the third for Los Angeles, who led 98-84 heading into the fourth. Blue scored 14 points on 6-of-8 field goals in the final frame, to seal Los Angeles' 135-118 victory.
The D-Fenders shot .510 from the field, compared to .402 for the Bighorns. Los Angeles connected on 34-of-39 free throw attempts, and outrebouned Reno 62-38. The D-Fenders tallied a season-high 76 points in the paint, compared to 36 for the Bighorns.
Los Angeles hosts the Fort Wayne Mad Ants tomorrow at 5:00pm PT in El Segundo.
