July 26, 2010 - Northern League (NL)
Winnipeg Goldeyes News Release
Justin Justice smacked the go-ahead three run homer in the bottom of the eighth to give the Winnipeg Goldeyes (29-31) a convincing 12-9 win against the Flyers (22-37) at Canwest Park Sunday afternoon.
The Goldeyes pounded out ten runs in the eighth on eight hits, including three home runs off the bat of Justice, Wes Long, and Kevin West.
The Flyers started the scoring, getting on the board with two runs in the bottom of the first on Ron Bourquin's fourth long ball of the season. Two more came in the fourth after Joe Nowicki delivered a clutch two out single to plate Joey Gomes and Josh Burrus.
Winnipeg battled back for two in the fifth on a double by West and a sacrifice fly to center field off the bat of Luis Alen.
Schaumburg notched one more in the sixth, but in the eighth the train came off the tracks. Josh Giles began the frame giving up a single to Long and walking Juan Diaz. West doubled to deep center and Alen followed that up with a single through the left side. Jim Popp entered and gave up a three run bomb to Justice and by the end of the inning the visitors were down 12-5.
The Flyers did battle back in the top of the ninth. With the bases loaded and two outs, Brandon Newton sent a grounder up the first base line and into right field to clear the base paths for a triple. Travis Brown followed that hit up with a double of his own to score Newton. That was all Schaumburg would get, as Gomes grounded out to short to end the game.
The Flyers head home for a six game homestand at Alexian Field, beginning with the Joliet Jackhammers on Monday night. Schaumburg will send Alain Quijano to the hill. It's $1 Hot Dogs at the ballpark, so come out for a great deal and a great game.
First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 PM. Join Alex Perlman on 1410 WRMN and flyersbaseball.com for all the action as the Flyers take on the Goldeyes. The Schaumburg Flyers Pregame Show gets rolling at 6:50 PM with the game to follow.
